Rice Farmer
Linux & Systems · Active
Rice Farmer is a lightweight (~30 KB), pure-Bash tool that installs any Linux rice or dotfiles configuration from a GitHub URL, local zip, or directory — with a single command.
Features
- Auto-detection — identifies your distro, window manager, package managers, bootloader (Limine, systemd-boot, GRUB), and init system.
- Desktop conflict management — separate profiles for Omarchy, CachyOS, Garuda, Omakub, Caelestia, Hyprdots, and others. Warns of conflicts, quarantines incompatible configs, and installs missing dependencies.
- Rice repackaging —
ricer repackcaptures your active system configuration including terminal, editor, shell, keybinds, widgets, bars, wallpapers, audio, and systemd user services into a shareable zip archive. - Multiple install sources — GitHub URLs, local zip archives, local directories, and remote zip URLs.
- Barebones system support — detects minimal TTY-only Arch or Gentoo installations and installs the full DE/WM stack, audio, portals, and fonts.
- AI-assisted installation — uses a free cloud AI model (no API key required) to intelligently map unfamiliar rice structures, with full offline fallback via a built-in rule engine.
Supported Patterns
GNU Stow, chezmoi, bare git repos, plain .config/ directories, root dotfiles,
systemd user services, and bootloader themes (Limine, systemd-boot, GRUB).
